Continue Reading‘Sick as a XBLIG’ is potentially a regular feature in which we play an Xbox Live Indie Game and then write about it. Today we are writing about Don’t Die Pluto.
At its most basic Don’t Die Pluto from developer AJspartan is about steering a thing while trying to avoid some things and deliberately trying to hit some other things. But scratch below the surface and Don’t Die Pluto reveals an emotionally complex story of disenfranchisement, empowerment, revenge, and also steering a thing while trying to avoid some things and deliberately trying to hit some other things.
The main character in Don’t Die Pluto is Pluto – a planet bullied by other planets, of which Earth appears to be the ringleader, for being small. This is based on a true story, because the actual real Pluto used to be a proper planet but then got kicked out of the planet club for being too small and got downgraded to the …
Continue ReadingThe fifth and final installment of Battlefield 3 DLC comes in the form of End Game. As finales go, DICE pull out all the stops to deliver an action-packed expansion that shakes up the multiplayer with new vehicles and modes. It’s almost enough to make you forget about the awful single-player and co-op modes they tacked on.
First up is Air Superiority, a mode that originally appeared in Battlefield 1943 and plays out like airborne Conquest. Two teams of twelve take to the skies and battle to capture and control areas until opponents ticket bleed out.
Although skilled pilots usually dominate the skies, Air Superiority works well for rookies looking to cut their teeth. It allows players to get to grips with the controls, learn the nuances and tactics for air-combat and rapidly unlock new weapons and special abilities for the jets that they can use across all game …
Continue ReadingFans of last week’s ukulele interludes will be sad to hear that the instrument didn’t make the cut in this episode. But fear not, as Cundy has brought the largest keyboard this side of a Jean Michel Jarre concert and it’s packed with various noises.
As the men find their feet with this indie podcast thing, they decide to trial a few new things in this third episode, which are mostly ‘excellent’. But <cough> you’ll be the judge of that, right? When you get to the bit where they play a game, click to check out Shoot The Barrel’s new regular, Sick as a XBLIG, to see what they’re talking about. It’s like an interactive adventure.
Most importantly, there’s a new name for the podcast as you can see above. Give yourselves a pat on the back, and maybe a little arse pinch, for helping us come up with it. And don’t forget to hit the link below the podcast …
Continue ReadingLike all the best things in a Bethesda game, especially for oft neglected PS3 owners, Dragonborn makes you work for its love. We spent a while wandering around Windhelm with anticipation, waiting for some sign that ‘new things’ would happen. Thankfully, it wasn’t long before we were set upon by a gang of priests in spiky masks, angry at our supposedly false claim of lineage to the great fire breathing monsters of the sky.
A quick fight and a brief rummage for clues inside their clothes later and we had our destination: a boat to take us across the sea to the new land of Soltsheim. Our quest? To seek out Miraak who has plotted our demise.
The boat takes you to Raven Rock, a town located on the south-west coast of the island of Soltsheim. Upon arrival you’ll notice enough visual modifications to feel like …
